About Thom Feild

hom Feild has spent his colorful career in the realm where art meets applied art. He has been a pianist with more than a dozen dance companies, including American Ballet Theatre, Washington Ballet, New York Theatre Ballet, and Kennedy Center Productions. His art and design have been exhibited at The American Museum of Design, the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery, and in galleries from Madison Avenue to Scottsdale, AZ.

In 1990 Thom established himself as an art director and designer. He spent seven years leading and collaborating with creative teams at Aldus and Adobe — the innovative creators of Photoshop, Acrobat PDF and other pioneer design tools — before founding two design studios in Seattle, Washington. He has won numerous accolades and awards for design; his client list includes AOL, HP, Barneys New York, Bloomingdale's, and various wine and food industry companies. Thom has also taught at Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts, Cornish College of the Arts, and, of course, Interlochen Arts Camp.
Interlochen & Thom Feild
Thom grew up in Detroit, spending family summers in Michigan's Boyne City, not far from Interlochen. He first learned of the camp when his family met music educator Karl Haas, who later became the host of Adventures in Good Music (a syndicated radio program) and the second president of Interlochen.

Thom has long admired the other published accounts of Interlochen and for 30 years has dreamed of writing his own personal version of camper/staff experiences. "There seems to be a countless number of us out here all trying to explain Thom Feildto friends and colleagues — without much success — why Interlochen was and is such a powerful element in our lives. I was hoping I might finally distill some of it in writing Pine Nuts."
